Last Sunday’s topic of Mr. Francis Kong on his weekly column at Philippine Star was about Leadership. And it talks of what makes a great leader and what makes a mediocre one (which I believe shouldn’t even be called a leader).
Reading this article gave me a different perspective on why we should only hire people who are bigger and more knowledgeable than us. The Russian doll gave me a clear view of how we let our organization ‘shrink‘ or ‘grow smaller’ if we let insecurity and fear of competition gets in the way.
So without further delays, I give Francis Kong on Leadership

As I promised to Mr. Francis Kong when I requested permision in re-posting his New Company Policies article here, I would create another post for the Dr. John Maxwell’s Leadership Summit posted as a footer in his article.
Yes, Mr. John Maxwell, the man himself will be at this year’s most exciting and high-impact leadership event! He will be here on June 10, 2008 at the EDSA Shangri-La Hotel for The John Maxwell Leadership Summit.

Next to attending seminars and actual classes, reading books is a great way to gain knowledge in anything, whether it be in business, arts, personal development and so on. Books on business and entrepreneurship, as well as management and leadership, are not lacking in titles. From Robert Kiyosaki, Donald Trump, Zig Ziglar, John Maxwell to our very own Francisco Colayco, Francis Kong, Larry Gamboa and even Bo Sanchez! These guys have written books that would help anybody – from the business novice to the seasoned entrepreneur.
However, having the right weapons and the knowledge of properly using them is an entirely different thing. Reading all the books in the world will not make anyone successful… that is if he does not know when to put down the book. These authors would love to have their books read, no doubt about that, but they would be much happier I guess if their book would be applied in real life.
Theories, when applied, gives a much more meaning to what was learned. Only when we take the courage to apply what we have read, can we pay back all the great authors who have unselfishly shared their insights and experiences. Anything learned without being applied is useless – for the best way to learn to do anything is by actually doing it!
So put down that book!
Stop reading and start doing!

Do you ever talk to yourself?
I do and I bet you do too.
Almost all of the famous and successful motivational speakers agree that talking to one’s self is a very healthy exercise.
I believe that. However… if you talk to yourself and find yourself saying “HUH?” I think you’ve got a problem. Learn to talk to yourself in a positive way, but keep your voice volume down.
But if you are shaking your head in self-denial telling me that you have not talked to yourself, ask yourself this question. What do you do or better still, what do you say when you are driving and that ugly bulky bus muscles his way into your lane? Get the point?
