I failed with BDO but I was fortunate to get my money credited back by them, yet still up to now my PayPal is not yet verified. Sure, I can still receive payment in my account, but I can’t withdraw them yet until I have a bank credit card or debit card which is accepted by PayPal.
Today I applied for an EON Card by Union Bank, I was told that this one is accepted by PayPal. Before I applied, I asked the New Accounts clerk first if EON Card is indeed accepted by PayPal and he confirmed it, adding that it is the one being used by their client in their PayPal transactions. He is just not aware of the procedures in applying EON to PayPal.
So I immediately filled up an application to get my EON Card. The fee for the card P350.00, and there is no maintaining balance. However, the card requires at least two weeks to be processed and approved. So I still have to wait for the confirmation letter to arrive at our house, it is only then that I will know if my EON Card application is approved or not. If approved, I can go back to the branch to get my card. The P350.00 fee will only be paid once the account is approved.
A good enough procedure I must say. Two weeks will pass anyway, whether I have an approval to wait or not. Now, at least I have a chance to get my PayPal approved even if I do not have credit card.

I am very much tempted to write a post-SONA article (because I’m sure it will definitely help my search ranking ), but I want to write something positive and thus SONA might not be a good subject. And so I searched for another topic wherein I could be writing something positive.
Then I remembered, I’ve been meaning to write about the experience I had with BDO just a month ago. And this was with their Angeles-Nepo Branch where I have opened my account. I opened an account with BDO because I have applied for a Paypal account and some friends told me that a BDO account is accepted with Paypal.

Do they honestly believe I would fall for this?
Last week, I received the following email from Bank Of America (allegedly):
Dear Valued Customer :
We recently have determined that different computers have logged in your Bank of America Online Banking account, and multiple password failures were present before the logons. We now need you to re-confirm your account information to us. If this is not completed by July 2, 2008, we will be forced to suspend your account indefinitely, as it may have been used for fraudulent purposes. We thank you for your cooperation in this manner. In order to confirm your Online Bank records, we may require some specific information from you.
To restore your account, please Sign in to Online Banking.

I never thought I could have some complain… after all I was satisfied with the service so far. Save for the long waiting time (even in a very short line), their customer relations is commendable. Until one time I deposited a check intended for another branch’s account.
It used to be that I deposit cash when I have to pay suppliers with BDO account in other branches. And because I’m depositing cash I pay for service charge since this is an interbranch deposit. Being a former banker, I can understand that. Cash carried by the branches in their vaults carries costs for insurance, hence additional cash could cost additional insurance.

We went to PNB (Philippine National Bank) today to open accounts. My sister in Canada who’s helping me migrate there is sending money for me to use in the processing of my papers. Unfortunately, her choice of bank is PNB. Why unfortunately? You’ll see why as you read on.
We came at around 12:00 noon, there were few clients, so I guess we would have no problem. We will be opening two types of accounts - a regular savings account with passbook and a time deposit account. As we approached the counters and inquired, we’re fortunate to approach the right person to open our time deposit. For the regular savings account however, we were told to approach another clerk!
