Taking care of our elders was never really an issue in our country. That is because elderly care is part of our culture, having very close family ties as our tradition. Yet, because of the passage of time, practicality, financial and other reasons, there are times that families can no longer provide the quality time necessary to look after their elders.

While it has not been really accepted in our society, if you look around you, you can already find a nursing home that will provide services that such as taking care of the elders in the family, while you go out to work and make sure that they, and your family will eat three times a day.

Maybe it is still a no-no to some, because of our tradition and culture, but expect nursing home services to mushroom in the near future. Not that we are becoming ungrateful children, but the times call for a more practical approach.

Other countries have long been having the home for the aged institutions, to look after the elders who were entrusted to them by the families who were busy to take care of them. I am not promoting, but should my children grow up, and needs more time to work to sustain their family, I wouldn’t mind if they put me in such an institution… as long as they visit me of course.

I was faced with this kind of dilemma a few months ago. My ailing lolo needed constant care, the family ended up hiring a private care giver for him. We wanted to bring him to a Nursing home just like the one on your link, but HE didn’t want us to bring him anywhere.

Good thing you didn’t insist on it Z, it might not have a good effect on him. At least he knows that you’re still willing to take care of him.
