Not that he has special skills, talents or an extra-ordinary qualification, but Arthur Principe, 35, deaf-mute, being hired by country’s highest court sets a milestone not only for himself, but also for the whole country, and sends a message that they can work side and co-exist with other people.

Supreme Court hiring it’s first deaf-mute employee in the person of Arthur Principe, I believe should be congratulated. For they have set a precedent that others can emulate - and should emulate!

We’ve been hearing talks and advocacies left and right, about giving our ‘handicapped’ brothers equal opportunity in our society. Yet few really follow and practice such advocacy.

Really now, how many of those who rally for this cause have disabled people under their employ? And I’m not referring to those hired doing menial works like sweeping and other utility works. Not that these are not noble enough for them, but it’s more like hiring them because of sympathy and not because of their qualifications.

Arthur’s work maybe clerical, but so are his other colleague. He is hired because of what he can do, and not because people sympathized with his condition - he has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Major in Management.

His tasks include managing files, encoding and photocopying of documents, which I believe is just like other employees in level. And maybe, if he can prove himself, he will be given bigger responsibilities.

Yes, I agree, there are times they should be given ’special’ treatment - like special or priority access. But let us not let sympathy blind us from recognizing their true potentials.

Hooray for Arthur Principe!

Yes Roy, a very inspiring news. Your right about those making noises advocating the rights of the disable but are doing nothing. Jollibee is one company I admired that is doing something about this matter.

  2. Roy says:

    Hi sir Mon!

I didn’t know Jollibee has a program for them. That’s good news then.

    thanks!
