I am very much tempted to write a post-SONA article (because I’m sure it will definitely help my search ranking :) ), but I want to write something positive and thus SONA might not be a good subject. And so I searched for another topic wherein I could be writing something positive.

Then I remembered, I’ve been meaning to write about the experience I had with BDO just a month ago. And this was with their Angeles-Nepo Branch where I have opened my account. I opened an account with BDO because I have applied for a Paypal account and some friends told me that a BDO account is accepted with Paypal.

So after going through the process of opening my account, applying for internet banking and finally receiving my ATM Card (which was quite long, it took 2 weeks), I applied my new Debit Card in my Paypal account, so I can finally be verified. Only to read the message that “The card number you submitted was denied by the issuing bank. Please verify with your local merchant or submit another card“, or something to that effect.

Checking my details, all information I typed were correct. Dismissing it as, perhaps my card isn’t activated yet, I just ignored it and planned to try again after some days. Which I did, yet still I got the same message. Two more tries after a few days and still I am getting the message. Unbeknown to me, every time I attempt to have my card verified, my account is being debited $1. I was only able to verify it when I checked my account online.

So I went to my branch of account immediately when I had the chance. Went straight to the New Accounts clerk and stated my case. As I have suspected, she doesn’t know anything Paypal nor the reason why I was debited. I tried so hard to hide the frustrations from face. She then told me to verify this case instead with their customer service call center. I thought I’ve shown disgust in my face that time. She started to write on a paper, I’m thinking it’s the number of their customer service. But before finishing, she stood up and when on the phone.

She dialed some numbers, afterwards she called me and “Sir, here is our customer service” I was relieved because I don’t have to incur long distance charges to call them myself. And that I won’t have to wait anymore to have some answers on my concerns.

It was through the customer service representative that I’ve known that BDO doesn’t have any agreement with Paypal. In fact they have been receiving so much complains about accounts being debited that they don’t advise their client to use BDO for Paypal or any international transactions in the meantime. She then asked the details of my debited amount and told me that it might take long before the amount will be credited back to my account. I said, that’s fine with me.

It really doesn’t matter whether the $4 will be credited back to my account, as I was very much satisfied with the action of the New Accounts Clerk. Not knowing anything about the transaction doesn’t mean you can’t do anything about it. And I am very much aware that, unless you maintain at least one million ADB with the bank, you will not get any much assistance as what the New Accounts Clerk did. I didn’t get her name as I wasn’t able to read her ID, but I sure hope she continues her good service to all clients. Kudos!

Just checked my account… the $4 were already credited back.

    Hello Roy,

What branch are you talking about , is it the Highway Branch or Miranda Branch, because the highway branch have unsmiling information assistants. Anyway, where did you finally get a bank credited to paypal. My problem too with paypal is that i don’t have a credit card and it keeps asking for it. How did you solve the problem? Thanks for the info.

hehehe… I would agree with you on that. I’ve been there too. I’m referring to the Nepo branch, the one in the DTI building (alongside Digitel and SSS)

Actually, my paypal right now isn’t yet verified. I also don’t have any credit card. They said Unionbank ATM card gets approved in paypal. But I haven’t opened any account with unionbank yet.

Hi Roy, yes I’ve read a lot about Union back having this certain card, known as a Debit Card which one can use with paypal. I’ll have to inquire there too. Hey we may want to ask Ruby of Pinay Mommy Online, I’m sure she knows a lot about this. I’ll inform you of any developments.

I’m still a little bit irritated with the Banco de oro highway branch..lol…pero konti lang..he he he..happy blogging.
