Do they honestly believe I would fall for this?
Last week, I received the following email from Bank Of America (allegedly):
Dear Valued Customer :
We recently have determined that different computers have logged in your Bank of America Online Banking account, and multiple password failures were present before the logons. We now need you to re-confirm your account information to us. If this is not completed by July 2, 2008, we will be forced to suspend your account indefinitely, as it may have been used for fraudulent purposes. We thank you for your cooperation in this manner. In order to confirm your Online Bank records, we may require some specific information from you.
To restore your account, please Sign in to Online Banking.
thank you for using Bank Of America Online Service.
Your account might be place on restricted status. Restricted accounts continue to receive payments, but they are limited in their ability to send or withdraw funds. To lift up this restriction, you need to login into your account (with your username or SSN and your password), then you have to complete our verification process. You must confirm your credit card details and your billing information as well. All restricted accounts have their billing information unconfirmed, meaning that you may no longer send money from your account until you have reactive your billing information on file. Sign in to Online Banking
Thank You.
Please do not reply to this message. If you have any questions about the information in this e-Bill, please contact your biller. For all other questions, call us at 800-887-5749.
Quite a nice try. It looks professional and all, but they miss out on one thing. I do not have any account with the Bank of America - online or offline. So how could I update my informations with them?
Obviously, this is one of those phishing scam proliferating the internet. The To: portion in the e-mail shows undisclosed-recipients instead of my email address. I also received another one from Citibank requesting me to update my information too. And again, I do not have an account with them.
These people would do anything to get all our pertinent informations. We should all be extra-careful with all these type people lurking in the web.

Naku marami yan. If not for Gmail having a good filter I would be bombarded with tons of them in my inbox. Nagkakaroon ako ng credit card account kahit wala… hehe…
According to “IMF” I even have hundreds of thousands of dollars collectible as CONsultant… Oh I’m flattered…
oo nga e, ang yaman pala natin ‘pre!
Hi Roy,
Imagine what people resort to just so they could gain fast money. Hindi kaya sila nakokonsensya?
I receive tons of these letters. Especially from Nigeria, London and Spain. This scam is prevalent now.
Thanks for sharing.
