Is it really an advantage to have an Advantage card?

It really annoys me everytime I pay at the cashier of SM Department Store, cause she would always ask, “Sir, do you have an Advantage card?” to which I would always say “No!”. Her automatic follow-up then “Sir, would you like to have one?” Again - “No!” that should end it right? But no, it doesn’t… “Sir, you have substantial purchases, the points would all go to waste and…” “NO!” “but sir, the points would be credited to you immediately…” again “NO!” It’s irritating! Too much hardsell! Don’t they know the meaning of the word NO?!
I don’t patronize that (dis)advantage card because of various reasons. First, I am not a regular buyer of that mall, hence I won’t really accumulate much point anyway. Points have expirations and you really need to accumulate many points in order to redeem a descent item for them. READ: YOU NEED TO MAKE MANY PURCHASES AND PAY GOOD MONEY! Another reason is that I hate the guts of people who forces things to me! They were literally sticking them to my face! NO means NO! It irritates me that they don’t understand that. I hope their management reads this.
One more reason, and the biggest reason why I dislike (despise) that card, is that it is supposed to a ‘loyalty card’ and yet they are asking you to pay for it! Yes! You have to pay for the card! Just imagine, paying a company for you to be loyal to them! Sick!
Call me cheap, call it B.S. principle! But I believe that if you really want to reward your loyal customers, you should not make them pay for their loyalty! Come to think, they have already paid for the rewards their getting. I don’t believe that SM spends on these rewards as these are givens by sponsors!
So is it really advantage card? I guess it depends on whose point of view were referring to.

I actually have that before.they asked me to pay P100 than every P200 you will get 1 point.
base on my computation,para mabawi mo ang P100 you must buy at least P20k,am i right? so in short di ko nabawi ang P100 na binayad ko sa kanila.
hindi na po ako nag renew coz it will cost me P50 so that would be P10k para mabawi ko.
iniisip ko kung hindi ako aabot sa ganung halaga ng purchases,hindi na ko mag rerenew.
i have the Mercury Suki card and yun tuloy is free tsaka the same ang points system.wala akong hahabuling panahon kasi lifetime yun at wala akong binayaran for the card.YUn ang tunay na REWARD.

Buti na lang free yung SM Advantage Card ko.. kasama siya dun sa ibinigay nilang credit card. Wait. magwa-1 year na pala yung CC ko, dapat ng i-close para makaiwas sa annual fee. Hehehe
di may renewal fee na yan? Iko-close mo? Manghihinayang ka naman sa mga points na naipon mo na? Siguradong sasabihin nila sa ‘yo yan, hehe…
