My continuing adventure with the mobile technology

After my experiment with the mobile banking, I again set to embark on another technology available on my mobile phone. This time I tried to explore G-Cash. Maybe for those who have been using it for quite some time now, this isn’t so much a biggie. But for someone like me who’s use to doing things the traditional way, things like this could be so overwhelming.
I actually have enrolled to G-Cash even before I enrolled to mobile banking, but it is syntax driven. You have to memorize syntax and manually type them on your cellphone before sending them. But when I downloaded the menu for the mobile banking, I found out that there is also a menu for G-Cash that I can download. Cool!
Exploring the G-Cash menu, the first thing I tried was the balance inquiry. Good thing I loaded my G-Cash Wallet yesterday so I have something to work on. The balance inquiry went well, much faster than the BPI Mobile Banking was, less than 2 seconds at the most, which is rare. I inquired balance more than once. After checking my load wallet balance, I checked my cellphone load balance - my cellphone load wasn’t deducted!
Next thing I wanted to try on the menu was the Send G-Cash, for this I needed another cellphone number who is registered to G-Cash. Fortunately, I asked my son to enroll his cellphone to the service. So I proceeded with the transaction with so much ease, and loaded my son’s G-Cash wallet P20.00. That was fast and sweet! And again, no deduction on my cellphone load. Now I can pay suppliers via G-Cash and save me the P100.00 service charge most banks impose on interbranch deposit.
Hmmm… much satisfying than my mobile banking experience. What can I do next? There is a syntax for loading cellphones, so it must also be included in the menu. It took me a while to realize that G-Cash Load located inside Others menu referred to cellphone loading. That I did actually by just experimenting, and again, it was a success! What’s good upon loading via G-Cash is that 10% of the amount you loaded will be credited back to your G-Cash Wallet. This 10% rebate on load is available until October 5, 2008.
What if you need money? You can convert your G-Cash Wallet balance on different G-Cash partners to cash at a minimum charge. You can do it actually via mobile banking, but the charge is much higher than those with other G-Cash partners.
And like with mobile banking, I didn’t try the Bills Payment option as I have no accounts enrolled for bills payment. But all in all, this experience was smooth for me and I might actually use this technology more often.
