Last Sunday, May 11, 2008, after I brought my son for a check up at AUF Medical Center, we went inside the Jollibee store just right beside the hospital. Perhaps because of the time, around 2:00PM, there weren’t any customers aside from a family eating on one of the table. Quite surprising because the Jollibee’s I’ve seen never experienced this.

PhotobucketAnyway, I went straight to the counter to order our food - one Yum with TLC meal and one jolly hotdog meal, both upsize on fries and drinks. And I was told that the burger and hotdog would just be delivered to our table (did I say there weren’t any other customers?) So my son and I and just sat at a table right beside a wall. While waiting for our sandwhiches and eating our fries, I noticed a poster on on the wall beside us. It was Jollibee’s 30th anniversary and the poster says that for every P130.00 food purchase entitles the customer to a free Jollibee food item or a discount coupon. And that the prize will be randomly chosen by their computers and printed together with the receipt. I don’t have our receipt with us yet as it will be delivered together with our sandwhiches, but I’m sure it’s worth P168.00 so it should qualify.

Soon our food came… as we finished eating, I remember the poster and checked my receipt. It was nothing short of an ordinary printed receipt - without any prizes to claim printed on it. Checked the poster again for I might have missed something before going back to the counter to inquire. I asked the lady on the counter (not the same one who served us) why we don’t have any prize when our food purchase exceeded the P130 amount required. She told us that prizes are printed randomly by the computer and that not all receipts are given prizes AND that even those with BIGGER amounts of purchases sometimes don’t get any prize too! Hmm… I must have misunderstood what I read… but I’m pretty sure I understand what the word ‘every’ meant.

Same night that day, I logged on to their website and checked again the details of their promo - and there’s that word again EVERY! And even a grade schooler would know that ‘every’ doesn’t mean ‘random’. So while I’m at their website I filled out the form for feedback and inquiries, so I could confirm my understanding of their promo, stating what transpired in their AUF-Angeles City branch. Afterwhich I totally forgot about it, since I don’t really expect anything from it.

In fairness to the company. two days later, I got an email reply as an acknowledgement of my inquiry. Both seeking apology for any inconveniences brought about by the incident and that the matter was referred to the concern branch and will be looked upon. I also got a call from a certain Jenny from the said branch asking me about the details of my transaction with them - receipt number, my orders, name of store clerk, etc. Unfortunately, I can’t find my receipt so I can’t give any details except for the date and time, and the food we ordered. And that was it! Never heard from them again.

Not that I want to get anything from this, but I really would like to know what’s the deal. Because apparently, this is not a case that only happened to me. As I told the incident to my niece a few days later, they also had the same experience. A food purchase exceeding the P130 required amount yet they didn’t get any free items nor a discount coupon. And perhaps the same could be true with other customers!

Now, it’s either that the company is shortchanging it’s customers by trying to be technical with the word ‘every’ viz-a-viz ‘random… or they have incompetents as frontliners representing them. Either way, both are not good for the company’s image and reputation.

Should, and if ever, they give me any updates that would clarify things. I will be more than willing to post it here. But as of now, this is my experience - first hand experience, no add ons, no technical presentations just to jazz up things. Just plain and direct accounts of things that happened to me… and I’m blogging about it.

Hi Roy. What happened to you is CONSUMER FRAUD. You should report it to DTI. For any promotional ad, they have to register it to DTI. This is definitely a fraud. You can send to DTI your communications with Jolibee so that they can start investigating. We should keep on blogging and telling people about these things. Keep it up my friend. Wigo

hi, just happened to drop by accidentally on this site while searching for something else with regards Jollibee (was actually looking for a way to file a complaint online for a friend with the way she was treated at a Jollibee store in Marikina recently) . . . anyway, speaking of this store (yes, this Jollibee store near AUF) I do distinctly remember that they had a sign posted on their toilet cubicles “PLEASE FLUSH AFTER USED” sometime way back, and just on hindsight if this is the way they do post such a sign (without thought actually if it’s grammatically correct), then I wouldn’t wonder why their crew/staff can’t explain about such promos . . . what cane one expect, right? kudos
